Finished work should be put in you drop box.

You are now very familiar with answering the IB style Listening and Analysis questions and should have an excellent understanding of what kind of information you will need to succeed in your research. Remember that you are to become the expert on the music you are researching and that your findings will become the study guide for the rest of your classmates.

Objective: Make a Power Point or Keynote presentation about the traditional music of “your country”.

Process:
Using the “elements of music” analyze the traditional music from your country and discover the unique characteristics of the genre.
Your audience should be able to distinguish what makes your countries music unique and identifiable.
Specific references to the music itself should be made using music pictures, notation, sound files, and/or video .
Reference should also be made to the music’s cultural ties, what the music was initially intended for, instrumentation, and music characteristics that were used. Correct terminology is important to the success of your presentation.

Handout:
A handout should be given to all students that outlines points that you have identified that make this music identifiable or unique. How does this music sound different from other forms of music. Example: Does it use a specific form, harmony or rhythm?

Expectations:
There are no length requirements.
Cultural and musical perspectives are important.
Your investigation should include but not be limited to: texture, harmony, rhythm, timbre, form, and cultural perspectives.
Music, pictures, and video should be imbedded in the presentation.
Be sure to focus most of your research on the music, but include a cultural perspective and timeline.

Influence: Include at least one way this music has influenced another genre of music.

Assessment: High marks will be awarded for the inclusion of all requested information. Your music analysis should make clear reference to the music. Your presentation should demonstrate your depth of knowledge of the genre and its specific influence on another genre. Correct terminology and music analysis are essential for success.
